WEST BOYLSTON — The
West Boylston Parade Committee has announced it will host a post
parade party, which will be located on the grounds of Goodale Park,
Sept. 21, immediately following the Grand Parade Procession. The
committee is aware that many West Boylston alumni and extended
family members of residents will be traveling to West Boylston for
the parade. The post parade event will give spectators the
opportunity to visit with friends and family, both past and present,
at this informal gathering.
“Present plans call for a few of the parade highlights to perform
many impromptu concerts at the gathering,” said Bruce Peterson,
parade committee member.
The University of Massachusetts Minutemen Marching Band is slated to
treat the crowd to its complete 2008 fall half-time repertoire,
commonly labeled the “Third Half” at UMass home football games.
Other appearances will include the colorfully costumed Mummers from
Philadelphia. This ensemble entertains audiences worldwide.
“The Mummers are thrilled to return to West Boylston, as they were a
feature unit in West Boylston’s 175th Anniversary parade,” said
Chuck Hudson, 175th Anniversary chairman and Bicentennial honorary
chairman.
Additionally, there will be a concert by the New Liberty Jazz Band
and Branches Steel Drum Band that is meant to have the crowd tapping
the toes to the beat of the music.
There will be food available at the post parade party, as well as
many commemorative bicentennial souvenirs.
Spectators are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic
items. It is expected for the post parade party to bridge into the
anniversary fireworks presentation sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts.
Local families are reminded that there will be no school the day
after these events so the community’s students may enjoy these
cultural oriented activities, which only occur a few times in a
lifetime.
The parade begins at 2 p.m. at Salter College and runs down Route
12, to Central Street, ending at Goodale Park. The post-parade
parade will follow immediately, with an expected start of about 4
p.m. Fireworks will begin about 9 p.m. |
